Roles and Responsibilities:
· Imaging Procedures:
Perform diagnostic imaging procedures such as X-rays, CT scans, MRIs, and fluoroscopies as prescribed by physicians.
Ensure patient comfort and safety during imaging examinations.
· Equipment Operation:
Operate and maintain radiographic equipment, ensuring proper functioning and adherence to safety protocols.
Monitor and calibrate imaging equipment for optimal image quality.
· Patient Interaction:
Communicate with patients to explain procedures, address concerns, and obtain relevant medical history.
Position patients correctly to capture accurate images.
· Image Analysis:
Analyze and interpret imaging results, identifying abnormalities or potential issues.
Consult with radiologists and other healthcare professionals to discuss findings.
· Record Keeping:
Maintain accurate and detailed patient records, documenting procedure information and results.
Ensure compliance with data protection and confidentiality regulations.
· Radiation Safety:
Adhere to radiation safety guidelines and protocols to minimize radiation exposure to patients, staff, and oneself.
Implement safety measures and quality control procedures.
· Collaborative Healthcare:
Collaborate with radiologists, physicians, and other healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive patient care.
Assist in the development of imaging protocols and procedures.
· Quality Assurance:
Participate in quality assurance programs to maintain and enhance the quality of imaging services.
Perform routine checks on equipment and report any malfunctions.
Maintain professional certifications and licensure.
· Patient Education:
Educate patients about the imaging procedures, preparation requirements, and any potential side effects.
Provide post-procedure information and answer patient questions.
Qualifications and Skills Required:
· Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in radiography or a related field.
· Need to obtain a valid license to practice as a radiographer in Ireland.
· Practical experience in clinical settings, typically gained through internships or work placements.
· Proficient in operating radiographic equipment and imaging software.
· Familiarity with different imaging modalities.
· Effective communication skills to interact with patients and collaborate with healthcare professionals.
· Keen attention to detail for accurate positioning and interpretation of imaging results.
· Ability to provide compassionate care and maintain a reassuring demeanor with patients.
· Flexibility to work in various healthcare settings and adapt to changes in technology and procedures.
